Because only meaningful, self-driven DEI work is sustainable, Doing The Work prioritizes the individual journey, impacting schools, organizations, and communities one person at a time.

"...To be very candid, I signed up for the class with the thought that it would almost be like a pat on the back for being such an inclusive and thoughtful person. Ouch, there were some tough realizations along the way. The class has helped to expose me to inclusive language. I conscientiously make every effort to practice that now. I had missteps along the way and learned from them. It encouraged me to look at our country's history and foundation from a completely different perspective. I feel I have a better understanding about systemic racism and it's no longer just a buzzword....  I would absolutely encourage and recommend this opportunity to anyone who might be thinking about it. It was a lot more work than I anticipated. The work was not the readings or videos. The time commitment was actually very reasonable. The work came when I was exposed to uncomfortable circumstances whether it was readings, discussions, or videos. The work was allowing myself to realize that I don't know yet what I don't know. Doing the Work taught me the importance of being vulnerable and open to new ideas and perspectives. I think it was a helpful foundation that will directly impact my role here at Hotchkiss both in the Academic Office and as a community member"
